Sheila Ucci

Ucci, Sheila So this girl died. But just like her husband, before she did that, she lived. Sheila Ucci passed away this Spring at the age of 67 years old and she spent all but five of those years together with her husband Louis. No joke. For over sixty years, Sheila and Louis loved each other. Their love never faltered, it never wavered and it never even diminished in any way. This is in spite of raising five children, some of whom were very rebellious, in a tiny duplex on London Crescent. They’re love was something you expect to see in the cheesiest romance movie, not in real life. There was absolutely nothing that could keep Sheila and Louis apart. This, unfortunately, also included death. After Louis died unexpectedly this past fall, Sheila very quickly followed him into the next world. It sounds hyperbolic or cliche, but it is our belief that Sheila very literally died of a broken heart. While Sheila was alive she was so many things to so many people. She was a devoted, loving mother to her five children, Vincent, Philip, Kevin, Christina and Lisa. She was a proud and welcoming mother in law to her children’s partners, Jennifer, Natalie, Kate, Jordan and Brayden. She was a loyal and ever present sibling to her brothers and sisters and their partners, Michael, Mary, Martin (Jane), Kevin (Lise) and Patti (Roger). She also loved Louis’ siblings with the same devotion; Reggie (Dennis), Maria (Frank) and Kartz. She was a courteous and loyal daughter to both her parents, James and Paticia and to her in-laws, Vincenzo and Palmina. In her later years she became a ferociously proud and generous Nonna to her seven grandchildren, Daxton, Frankie, Ozzy, Molly, Tegan, Louie and Zeke. She was a loyal friend; she would always make time for those close to her and make it her intention to celebrate and foster her many relationships. She had way too many friends to list here. For over thirty years she was an incredibly kind, talented and hardworking teacher. For her whole career, she saw the good in everyone and would move heaven and earth to educate, advocate and motivate every student who was lucky enough to be in her class. This can be seen by the generations of students who have told us that ‘Mrs Ucci’ is their answer to the banking security question, “Who was your favorite teacher?”. She was an artist with her knitting needles. She worked tirelessly to make works of woolen art that can be seen worn by so many, not just in her community of Elliot Lake, but across the country and around the world. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services, Elliot lake. She was an incredible writer. For evidence of this, look no further than the speeches she wrote for her children when they were young or the fact that this obituary isn’t nearly as clever or well-written than the one she wrote for Louis a couple of months ago. In conclusion, Sheila was the perfect personification of kindness. She always, almost to a fault, put the well-being of others ahead of her own. She would do anything for anyone. So many times in our lives, Sheila would drop everything she was doing if someone was in need. She was always present for people in the hardest times and never present when it came time to get credit for it. That’s who Sheila was and those of us that got to be around her were all so incredibly lucky. Just like her husband before her, when Sheila Christine Ucci died on April 19, 2026, she left this world a far better place than the one she entered 67 years earlier. Sheila’s family will be celebrating her life from July 31st to August 2nd this summer. There will be a golf tournament in her honour on August 1st at Stone Ridge Golf Course and a ceremony the following day at the Collin’s Hall.
