Steele, Rex It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rex Brown Steele of Blind River, Ontario, who died peacefully on August 5, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 90. Rex was born on November 15, 1934, to Rex and Leah Steele (nee Schust) in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended Culver Military College and the University of Michigan, earning a degree in Business Administration, after which he moved to New York to work at Merrill Lynch. While attending University Rex also served one term in the U.S. Army at Fort Riley, Kansas. Over the years, Rex held various commercial sales positions across the United States, fostering his love of life on the road and meeting new people. It was his gift of conversation that charmed the future love of his life, Judith, during a visit to a friend on Lake Lauzon in 1989. In true Beatnik fashion, Rex and Judith soon married in Las Vegas while RVing around North America. When Rex and Judith joined forces, it wasn’t just a marriage—it was the joyful blending of two families into one large, loving unit. Their partnership sparked countless gatherings, road trips, and vacations that stitched their five children and extended families into one beautiful, blended family. Rex is survived by his wife, Judith Pousette of Blind River, Ontario; daughters Jennifer Steele-Halfman (Brad) of Mesa, Arizona, Elizabeth Eaves (Brian) of Birch Run, Michigan, and Janet Steele Gillock (Parker) of Independence, Virginia; sons Nathan Mutch (Lisa) of Blind River, Ontario, and Jason Mutch (Kelly) of Ottawa, Ontario; sister-in-law Barbara Steele of Algonac, Michigan; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rex loved to sail, sing in the choir and could often be heard listening to Handel’s Messiah. We will forever miss Rex’s intellect, kind words, and uplifting spirit, along with his commitment to community through his charity work and his unwavering support for his family. To honour Rex’s zest for life, a Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a future date to be announced. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services. ________________________________________
