DESCHAMPS, Patricia “Mae” (nee Dugmore), born August 6, 1932 With heavy hearts and sorrow, the family of the late Mae Deschamps announces her passing on August 30, 2022 at the Espanola Long-Term Health Centre. Survived by children Kim Deschamps and family, Laurie-Anne McCallion; grandchildren Emma and Chloe who were her world; sister of Bernice Martin and Violet Hoyt; plus numerous nieces and nephews who fondly referred to as “Aunt Maisie”. Predeceased by husband Albert Deschamps, sister Francis and brother Lloyd. She will also be remembered by many friends and extended family members, who will recall her witty sense of humor, love of animals, music, the outdoors and her sense of eco-responsibility. Mae was always a keen protector of the environment and tried to teach others of their duty to engage in environmentally-friendly practices for the long-term good of our planet. Decades before ‘green’ was ‘cool’, Mae was already a front-runner in this field. She taught us not to buy colored toilet paper and tissues many years prior to the banishment of such dyes in these products. She taught us to never litter, and to always be a friend to animals. In fact, there were few years of her life that Mae didn’t share her home with household pets, namely cats and dogs, which she cherished always. Mae was also a true humanitarian to others, often opening her heart and her home on numerous occasions to family members and friends who always appreciated her kind and loving support. Mae will be remembered and she will be missed, always. A private memorial service and cremation burial will be planned by her family at a later date.
