Maurice Macknight Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family announces his passing on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at his residence. He was an amazing husband to the love of his life Jacquelyn, father to Kellyann, Kari, Danielle, Jessica, grandfather to Benjamin, Skye, Dylan, Deven, Jillian, Allison, Corinne and Madilynn, and great grandfather to Kalilah. Maurice was born to a Canadian soldier and war bride, in England. Maurice lived most of his life in Ontario. He had a passion for the outdoors and started in mining exploration as a teenager. He then went to Haileybury School of Mines where he graduated at the top of his class as a mining engineer. Maurice worked for mining companies in Northern Ontario and Quebec, his last position was at Rio Algom until the mines were closed. Maurice was known as a brilliant man who could do anything. While enjoying his retirement from mining Maurice owned and operated Best Sharpening Machining and Welding, in Elliot Lake. Among the things Maurice was most proud of was his standing as a Master Mason and becoming the Master of the Masonic Lodge in Elliot Lake. His wife would like to thank Marcia at Home and Community Care, Dr. Chau and Sue, Tammy with the BSO Program, the PSWs at Care Partners, Ann the private PSW and the hundreds of community members who demonstrated love and respect by showing up for him and calling to offer help and support during his 8 year battle with dementia. Maurice and his wife extend thanks most especially to Maurice’s longtime friend Larry, Tobie, Sheila and Bob who were, literally, there for them any time, any place and any reason without hesitation. Please forward any contributions and/or donations to The Masonic Hall to assist with their many community oriented works.
