Margaret Bernier

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret (nee Weir) Bernier aged 94, on Sunday, November 16, 2025, surrounded by the enduring love of her family. Margaret was born September 22, 1931, in Paisley, Scotland. She was predeceased by her parents, Ephraim and Sarah (nee Dorman) Weir, and by her only brother, Ephraim (Betty) Weir, all of Scotland. Margaret married the love of her life, Benoit “Ben” Bernier (predeceased), a member of the Canadian Navy, on October 8, 1953, in Scotland. They immigrated to Canada, where they raised two children and were blessed with four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. Loving mother of Suzanne Bernier (Robert Williams) and Paul Bernier (Suzanne). Loving Nana to Chad Bernier, Scott Petrie, Jason Petrie, and Craig Petrie. Margaret held strong to her Scottish heritage and was happiest when surrounded by her family, sharing stories and traditions of her homeland. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews in Quebec and Scotland. Margaret left an indelible mark on our hearts and our lives. While the tartan of our family now has a thread missing, the pattern she wove for us remains strong and beautiful. She will be profoundly missed, but her spirit, her stories, and her love will guide us always. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful staff at the Elizabeth Centre. You are truly angels on earth. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services, Elliot Lake, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation (by cheque or online) would be appreciated.
