Lucie Diane (Poisson) Schetakis

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lucie Diane Schetakis (née Poisson) of Elliot Lake, Ontario. She passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital late Saturday, April 4, 2026 after an arduous battle with ovarian cancer.

Lucie was born June 4, 1951 in Malartic, Québec. She attended the University of Ottawa and attained a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics. She worked in the field following her graduation in Rouyn-Noranda, Québec, and in Sault Ste. Marie before moving to Elliot Lake to work at the St. Joseph's Hospital from 1981 until 1084. She then chose to leave her post at the hospital to work alongside her husband in the family businesses, Consumer Gift Outlet and Elliot Lake Jewellers until their retirement in 2014. Lucie loved to travel, having travelled across Europe (where she met her husband in Greece), Asia, north Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America. She had a passion for health and fitness and kept active in various sports including martial arts in which she obtained a black belt, pickleball, and her daughter's fitness classes.

Survived by her husband Nickolas Schetakis, daughter Melina Schetakis, grandson Dimitri Schetakis-Lefebvre, and brother Réginald Poisson (Nicole). Preceded in death by her father Lucien Poisson (1969), her mother Fernande Lefebvre (2010), and her brother Marc-Andrée Poisson (2016). Funeral service will take place at the Gentle Shepherd Christian Church on April 18 at 10:30 A.M. Donations can be made In Memoriam to Elliot Lake Palliative Care (St. Joseph's General Hospital) or to Gentle Shepherd Christian Church.
