Lila Cyr Obituary

Cyr, Lila Carmen Marie (née Trahan) – Passed away in her sleep on September 19, 2022 in Calgary AB on her latest adventure with her sisters. Lila is predeceased by her husband and best friend of 43 years Romain II, and parents Roger Trahan and Yvonne (Moïse), her siblings Adéline Dubois(late Ovide), Roger, Annette Girouard (late Stirling), Louis(Hélène), André(Gert), Hélène Poliquin (late Daniel). She is survived by siblings Yvonne Dubois (late Paul), Aurore Trahan Corbeil (late Bernard), Claire, Cécile Laporte (Noël), Colette (Eugène “Geno”), Michel (Madeleine). Loving mother of Danielle Venedam(Wayne) and Romain III(Susan Corbett-Cyr). Belle Mémère to Véronique, Charlie, Sophie, Kaylie and Jake. She was a cousin, godmother, aunt, great aunt and good friend to so many. She will be missed by all. Lila was a professional hairdresser, small business owner and community super-volunteer. She was President of Blind River Minor Hockey and the Chamber of Commerce before starting her long political career as a municipal councillor in 1982. Her passion for politics was in her blood, as she was following her father on Town Council. Her true impact on the community was her boundless energy for volunteering for committees and boards where she was not afraid to get her hands dirty to get the job done. Her association with any event, was a guarantee of its success. She focused her energy where is she felt she could be the most impactful and was a member of the board with Community Living Algoma for over 24 years. She also found time in between events to learn how to fly, accumulating over 100 hrs. One of her most proud recognitions was being appointed as a Federal Returning Officer for Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing, one of only 338 positions in the country. Lila was in charge of two federal elections where she was recognised for her outstanding leadership as one of the top ROs in the country. She enjoyed travelling with family and friends. From a cross country 7000km road trip to Newfoundland and Labrador (twice) with 3 sisters to going on her many trips to Portugal to wait out the winter. She lived her life to the fullest and never let 5 different cancers, diabetes, one kidney, loss of a leg slow her down. She is an inspiration to all with her motto when told, you won’t be able to do that: “Just watch me”. In true Lila form, in the weeks preceding her passing, she was getting ready to join the hospital board and had made inquiries about returning to CLA. Family and friends are welcomed to her service at Paroisse St Famille (45 Woodard Ave) on 1 October 1st, 2022 at 10h30. A remembrance reception will follow at the Blind River Legion (27 Hawkins St) between 13h00 and 16h00. For those who want to remember her the way she lived, there will also be a celebration reception at the Legion between 19h00 and 22h00. In lieu of flowers (she did not have a green thumb), a donation to the Community Living Algoma (communitylivingalgoma.org), in her honour is appreciated.
