Leona Kenny

Kenny, Leona Jean In her 92nd year, peacefully passed on February 14, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Manor, with daughter Wendy Ciampaglia (nee Kenny) and son-in-law Joe by her side. Predeceased by her husband Jan Vanderwoude. Loving mother also to Susan Cockram (Richard), Murray Kenny (Martha), Kevin Kenny (Rhona) and Shawn Kenny (Barbara. Grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. A dear friend of “her favorite”, Donna Kenny wife of the late Harold Kenny. Leona was one of the co-founders of the Elliot Lake Group of Six, along with the late Viola Moody and ten years later they formed the original Elliot Lake Arts Club. Continuing on with her love of painting, she entered one of her canvases, done from a picture of the Rocky Mountains taken on a family vacation out to the west coast, into the Northern Ontario Arts Association annual competition. Proudly, she came out with a winning ribbon. She continued her painting for many years after health issues took over. Ms. Kenny also became Elliot Lake’s first woman to earn commercial pilot status. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Spencer and the wonderful first floor nursing staff at the Manor, for the wonderful love and care they gave our mother, especially with the added burden of Covid over this past year. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services.
