Joseph Bell Obituary

Bell,Joseph In Loving Memory of Joseph "Joe" Bell July 29, 1937 - July 17, 2025 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear Joe, who left us peacefully after a very brief but courageous battle with cancer. Joe was a hardworking man who spent much of his career with the Toronto Transit Commission as a proud streetcar operator. He took great pride in his impeccable safety record and dedication to the job. After retiring from the TTC, Joe embarked on a new chapter, opening two beloved fish and chips shops in the Niagara region. There, he built lasting friendships with his many loyal customers. Approximately 20 years ago, Joe settled in Elliot Lake, where he enjoyed a well-deserved retirement, often saying he had finally found the time to “do absolutely nothing.” He almost made it to age 88 and lived a great life. Joe was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his sister Pam Hunt; niece Heather Gerrits (Rob); great-nephews Travis and Tyler (Emma); and dear friends who stood by him always—Diane & John, Norma & Ross, Jean, Renata and their families. He was predeceased by his brothers Ken and Phil. Joe is also survived, though estranged, by his children Christine, Laurie, and Howard, and his brother Cameron. Heartfelt thanks to the dedicated team at Huron Lodge Retirement Residence and Bayshore Home Care, whose compassion, professionalism, and respectful care, make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors and their families, every single day. Joe’s warmth, wonderful sense of humour, and generosity touched many lives. He will be fondly remembered and forever missed. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Huron Lodge or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services.
