John Walker Obituary

John Michael Walker March 15, 1942 – October 3, 2025 It is with great love and fond memories that we announce the passing of John Michael Walker, on October 3, 2025, in Elliot Lake, Ontario. He was 83 years old. Born on March 15, 1942, in Port Colborne, Ontario, John was the son of John Elwood and Anne. He was predeceased by his parents and by his former wife, Jan. John is survived by his daughter, Jenn, and his son, Jeff, along with Jeff’s wife, Mira. He will also be deeply missed by his sister, Pat Mutton, and his brother, Jim. In later years, John shared his life with his beloved companion, Janet Croteau, affectionately known as “His Sweetie”, and her children, Kim and Jason. He also leaves behind Jason’s wife, Chelsea, and their son, Daryth, who brought him so much joy. John dedicated 33 years to teaching primary and middle school students, where he was remembered by many as a favourite teacher, for often letting his students watch more movies than the curriculum might have allowed. After retiring from teaching, he embraced the open road as a long-haul truck driver for Schneider National and later found joy driving shuttle for Erinwood Ford, surely making new friends on every trip. An avid sportsman and lover of the outdoors, John had a lifelong passion for fishing, especially at his dear friend Larry Wright’s cottage on the Naiscoot River, where he wished his ashes to be spread. He was endlessly energetic and curious, enjoying tennis, hockey, curling, rowing, and countless other activities. He was known to keep his children on their toes during tennis matches, even in his later years. Animals also held a special place in his heart, as every dog he met was delighted to find that John always carried a pocketful of treats. John’s larger-than-life personality, his infectious laughter, and his extraordinary storytelling left an impression on everyone he met. Even in his final months, his humour and optimism continued to shine, bringing joy to those around him. In lieu of a funeral, the family will be celebrating his life with a “Johnnie Walker” Scotch Whisky Cheers in his honour. Donations may be made to Elliot Lake St. Joseph’s Hospital, whose team provided him with exceptional care. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
