It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother at her home in Elliot Lake. Predeceased by her husband, Edward Woods, Sr. (1998) and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Loving mother of Edward, Jr. (Bunna) of St. Thomas, John (Donna) of Rideau Ferry, Mary Hamilton (Jesse) of Elliot Lake, Robert (Ping) of Toronto, Cindy of Elliot Lake and Susan of Elliot Lake. Grandmother to Chris, Kerry, Sherri, Michael, Kimberlee, Ryan,Carolyn and Jasmine, and great-grandmother to eight. Doris was born in Liverpool, N.S., and grew up during the Great Depression. Many of the challenges and life lessons of those early years shaped and influenced her throughout her life. She knew how to stretch a dollar, was a great cook and baker of the world’s best fresh blueberry and apple pies, and single-handedly ensured that her family always celebrated a wonderful Christmas and Thanksgiving. Even when times were tough, our mother always made sure we all were cared for and loved. What she might have lacked in size she more than made up for with her boundless energy and a wicked sense of humour. She was a successful real estate agent in the Sudbury area during the 1970s. Alongside her husband, she renovated several family homes, but her favourite years were split between their homes on Lake Agnew and in Florida. Failing health in recent years was the only thing that prevented her from many of her favourite pastimes, such as her gardens, hiking with her dogs, and travelling to visit family in Nova Scotia and southern Ontario. Mom was the glue that kept our large family together after Dad’s passing, and we will miss her quick wit and unconditional love. As per her wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family celebration of her life will be arranged at a later date. She will be interred next to her husband at Woodlawn Cemetery in Elliot Lake. Arrangements entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services.
