Doris Hannigan

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliot Lake, Ontario. Loving mother to Michael Hannigan of Hamilton and Lennard Hannigan (Val Kilp) of Elliot Lake. Magic making grandmother to Michelle Hannigan (Brandon Nicolak) of Tiverton, Ontario, and Kaleena Waugh (Luke Waugh) of Penticton, B.C. Adoring great grandmother to Lachlan and Griffin Hannigan-Nicolak. Doris is predeceased by her loving husband, Michael J. Hannigan, mother Clara MacKenzie and brothers Donald and George Mackenzie. An intensely proud daughter of Cape Breton, Doris was born in Orangedale, Nova Scotia. She moved to Elliot Lake in 1958 and had been a familiar, long-time resident of the town she loved. She worked as a dental assistant during her early years and went on to hold positions in several local banks within the town. She spent several years working the front desk of the Oaks hotel and spent 14 years at the St. Joseph’s General Hospital switchboard/admitting station. Doris was heavily involved in countless community groups and charity organizations and spent a life cultivating friends across the country and beyond. Her steadfast loyalty, good cheer and love of people in general will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know her. Interment and a celebration of life will be held in Elliot Lake at a date to be determined for later in the year. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services.
