With broken hearts we announce the passing of Donald William MacKenzie (Bampoo), in his 85th year Monday November 1st 2021 at North Shore Health Network, Blind River On. Beloved husband of Annie Muriel MacKenzie (Austin) for 61 years. Loving father of Scott MacKenzie (Kim) of Azilda On. Cherished grandfather of Adam MacKenzie of Slave Lake, Alberta and Nicholas MacKenzie of North Bay, Ontario.Loving son of John and Clara MacKenzie both predeceased. Dear brother of Doris Hannigan (Mike Hannigan predeceased) Elliot Lake, On. and George MacKenzie (predeceased). Special uncle to Michael and Lennie Hannigan. Dear brother in-law to Mary Matheson, Sydney, Nova Scotia and Ingrid Gillis (John) Amherst, Nova Scotia.
Don was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was born in Orangedale, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia on June 15th 1936. He moved to Elliot Lake in 1957 to begin a 39 year career at Rio Algom Mines retiring in1996. During that time in 1965 he and his family became residents of the Algoma Mills area. He enjoyed yearly visits to Cape Breton Island. He loved listening to celtic fiddle music while there and at home. No matter what his son or grandchildren were doing he was always there to support them.
As per Don’s request there will be no visitation or service at this time. Cremation has taken place and he will be returned to Cape Breton Island at a later date.The family would like to thank their special neighbours Sally and Doug Folz for all their concern and kindness during his illness as well as our friends and neighbours past and present.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Jeeves and staff at the emergency department, North Shore Health Network, Blind River, On for their care and compassion.
