It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of David Albert Rowe on March 20th, 2026.
Born in Little Current, Manitoulin Island on June 28, 1950, he was the only child of parents Mary (née Laidley) and Albert Rowe (both predeceased).
Although David never had any siblings, in his life he was surrounded by loving aunts, uncles, first cousins and their future families from the Laidley family. David also held a special bond with his uncles Len and Harry Rowe (both predeceased). A special acknowledgement to Wallace Moore, a lifelong friend who always kept in touch and checked up on David throughout his life. True friends. What stories these two could tell.
David started work as a paramedic with the local hospital in Little Current, then attended school in Sudbury for Social Work. Worked for the Children's Aid Society, then to the federal government working on job grant evaluations an approvals. He finalized his career as Executive Director of the Sudbury Vocational Resource Centre.
David loved nature and his Manitoulin Island. He enjoyed canoeing and kayaking the lakes and rivers of Northern Ontario, but kayaking Lake Huron's North Channel, Manitoulin Island, was special. It was in these spectacular settings that he revisited his childhood playground. He was intelligent and compassionate, a man versed in the history of our families and that of Manitoulin Island. He related with young and old, telling stories that would hold you in awe and wonderment. Words cannot describe how deeply he will be missed by family and friends.
David has requested that there is no ceremony. Cremation has taken place. He has requested that his ashes be spread on one of his special sites in Manitoulin's North Channel. Arrangements entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services, Elliot Lake.
