It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Alan Sr. Watkinson at the age of 76 on Thursday, January the 5th in Elliot Lake Ontario with his family by his side. Alan was a devoted husband to his wife Pauline Watkinson (Desjardins), celebrating their 38th anniversary days before his passing. He was a loving father to his children Ronald Watkinson, Tammie Olson (Denis) , Susan Steele, Alan Jr Watkinson and Stacey Tessier (Joel). He was cherished by his grandchildren Nicole, Matthew, Nathan, Coleson, Taylor, Tucker, Ashton and Sophie. Survived by his mother-in-law Reina Desjardins and brothers Brian and Steven, he now rests with his brother Larry. Alan was known for his distinguished mining career in Elliot Lake with Rio Algom. He loved the outdoors and lived for riding snowmobiles, quads, tractors and his side by side. He cherished his time at camp and lake living. He was a member of the fire department, Mine Rescue, the Masonic Lodge and a business owner, who enjoyed his news and would engage in many discussions about world issues and mining, for hours on end to anyone who would listen. Alan battled many health issues during his life. Always fighting and keeping a positive attitude, he strived to keep going. Although saddened by his death, he can now finally rest and be at peace. In honour of his memory, the family will come together for a graveside service at Woodlands Cemetery in Elliot Lake in the spring with a celebration of life. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Kidney Foundation and the Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Alternative Funeral Services.
